It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of William Melvin Tyler, affectionately known as "Bill", born on August 25, 1952, in Los Angeles, CA. His life was a testament to the power of compassion, dedication, and resilience, demonstrating the truth in the words of renowned author, Paulo Coelho, who stated, "The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times."
He spent the majority of his life in the Los Angeles area, but also resided in Washington State and Nevada before settling back in Los Angeles County. Bill was a brilliant, charismatic student who excelled in academics. His Intelligence Quotient (IQ) was so high, he skipped fourth grade, allowing him to graduate from Alain Locke High School in 1969. After high school, Bill worked as a draftsman for the international construction company, Haliburton and later as a dental assistant. Bill always had a passion for the medical field; he later worked as a medical assistant, emergency room nurse, and counselor for individuals in recovery.
Bill had a deep passion for life! He loved his daughter, his family, jazz music, fine dining, and the beach. Bill loved to learn, always taking courses and trade certificate programs. His passion for the arts lead to his involvement in several small films and documentaries.
Bill is survived by his daughter Treva Tyler, step-daughter Terri Davidson, brother James Tyler, former wife Sherian Gibson, numerous other family members and dear friends. His passing was proceeded by his mother Ella, father Elijah and oldest brother Robert. Bill will be laid to rest next to his mother at Evergreen Cemetery.
As Christians, we take comfort knowing that Bill is in Heaven with his parents and brother Robert.
We invite everyone to share their memories of William, and upload photos on his memorial page, as a tribute to his life and the love he spread. His life was a beautiful journey, filled with laughter, joy, and love, and each shared memory will serve as a reminder of the remarkable man that he was.
